Propulsion intern
Join Alpha Impulsion as a propulsion intern in Toulouse to design, test, and qualify AMBER’s propulsion system from concept to firing, in a hands-on startup environment.
By joining Alpha Impulsion as a propulsion intern in the Toulouse office, you will participate in the development of AMBER, Alpha Impulsion's small scale autophage demonstrator for suborbital flight and in-space propulsion.
Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you will contribute to the mechanical, thermal & fluidic design of AMBER’s propulsion system.
You will embark on a young project, with the opportunity to build it from start to qualification and exploitation.
Your first project here
Alpha Impulsion is developing a small-scale engine for its demonstrator AMBER. Its goal is to derisk at small scale technologies to be used in the future OPAL engine for in-space activities & GARNET engine for launch vehicles. The results of this demonstration might change the way mini launchers are built, demonstrating performance up to twice that of current propulsion technologies.
Your responsibilities
As part of your missions, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
Contributing to the combustion chamber mechanical design.
Contributing to the fluid line and injection plates design, following inputs from CFD analyses from laboratory partners.
Contributes to the thermal design of the combustion chamber, including the use of thermal protection, & methods of regenerative cooling.
Defining the combustion chamber test plan, from elementary testing to ignition testing of the full configuration.
Gaining hands-on experience by participating in system’s preliminary tests and integration towards firing tests.
What we would appreciate most
Required education, experience and skills
You are in the final year of a Master’s degree or engineering school, with a strong academic background and knowledge of hybrid rocket engines and fluid dynamics, and you are eager to apply your skills to real-world engineering challenges.
Creative, curious, and autonomous, you take pride in seeing the tangible results of your work.
You have practical experience in the design of rocket propulsion system components, with a particular focus on fluid dynamics and thermal design.
Comfortable with a startup environment and Agile frameworks.
Professional English required.
Would be a plus
Italian and/or French speaking.
Compensation & advantages
700€/month base salary, 75% public transport reimbursement (versus the usual 50%), sustainable mobility package “Forfait Mobilité Durable”.
If you thrive on challenge, take on a new one and join the crew.
